Integrative medicine is about incorporation of a biopsychosocial model of care into the standard evidence based physical therapy treatment model. This holistic mind-body medicine model includes self-care and self-awareness as a key component of health care. It also aims to treat the person in a holistic manner, focus on the root cause of an illness or disease, and encourages adopting a healthy lifestyle. This includes wholesome nutrition, meaningful exercise, restorative sleep, stress management strategies, meditation, mindfulness, balance between work and rest, and healthy relationships.

Some of the clinical uses of integrative lifestyle medicine include treatment and care for anxiety, central sensitization (heightened sensitivity to pain), depression, fibromyalgia, headache or migraines, chronic pain, pain catastrophizing, post-traumatic stress disorder, sleep disorders, and chronic stress.
